Pretoria's southern gateway is home to this 600-hectare municipal reserve, proclaimed in 1895 and often cited as Africa's first game sanctuary. Zebra, giraffe and wildebeest graze the thornveld and grassland, and visitors choose between marked hiking routes of roughly 3.5, 4 and 10.5 kilometres, plus mountain-bike routes and braai spots. Gates open from 6am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm, and payment is card only. Dogs are not permitted: the gate rules prohibit bringing any domestic animal into the reserve.
Note from SitnStay: No dogs or other domestic animals may be brought into the reserve; the rules posted at the gate prohibit all domestic and wild animals. Visitors report trail guidelines stating no pets.
