Kamfers Dam

Kamfers Dam is a large wetland just north of Kimberley, famous as one of only four lesser flamingo breeding sites in Africa and the only one in South Africa, thanks to an artificial breeding island built in 2006. Visitors typically view the flock from the roadside near the Flamingo Casino turn-off on the Johannesburg road rather than entering the dam itself. Recent pollution has affected the colony, so numbers vary.
