Lake Heron is a working game and trout farm in the Elandskloof Valley, about 19km from Dullstroom and roughly two and a half hours from Johannesburg. Guests stay in one of three self-catering cottages with fireplaces and king beds, and can fish two catch-and-release trout dams, try the clay pigeon range, or spot eland, black wildebeest and fallow deer around the farm. Only one cottage, with an enclosed garden, takes pets, and only with the owner's prior approval.
