Tucked into Douglasdale at 15 Alexander Avenue, Fourways, Norscot Koppies is a volunteer-run reserve of around 16 hectares on the site of 1940s granite quarries. Marked trails climb rocky koppies with views over the northern suburbs and pass a dam with a bird hide, while dassies, blesbok, duiker and tortoises live among the boulders. It opens only on the second and last Sunday of each month, with a sign-in at the gate, free entry and donations welcomed. Dogs are not permitted.
Note from SitnStay: Trail guides state that no dogs are allowed inside the reserve. Dog walkers are directed to the adjoining Kingfisher Park section, which is open daily and permits dogs.
