Swartvlei Beach sits about 5km from Sedgefield on the Garden Route, where the Swartvlei estuary meets the sea and the coastal walk continues on to Gericke's Point. There are no lifeguards, rip currents can be strong, and the estuary mouth is a breeding ground for the endangered African black oystercatcher. Because of that protected bird habitat, dogs are strictly prohibited on this beach and at the estuary mouth.
