Eighty-one hectares of formal and informal gardens on Olifants Road in Emmarentia, laid out above Emmarentia Dam about six kilometres from central Johannesburg. The terraced rose garden, herb and Shakespeare gardens, succulent collection and arboretum make up the botanical side, while open lawns and tree-lined paths spread out towards the water. Entry is free and the gardens are open from sunrise to sunset, with parking off several surrounding roads. Dogs are welcome on a leash in the designated areas but may not go into the dams or fountains.
