The cone-shaped peak between Table Mountain and Signal Hill, reached by a spiralling path that starts on Signal Hill Road and rises to 669 metres above the city and Atlantic seaboard. The round trip is roughly 5.5 kilometres and takes around four hours, with a final scramble that can be tackled via fixed chains and ladders or a gentler bypass. Dogs are allowed on a leash, but walkers need a SANParks My Activity Permit for Table Mountain National Park, which covers up to two dogs.
Note from SitnStay: Dogs are permitted on Lion's Head but must be kept on a leash and under control at all times. Walkers need a SANParks Level 1 My Activity Permit (about R403 a year, up to two dogs), carried on the hike; a fine of R2,500 applies for non-compliance. Hike in the cooler parts of the day as there is little shade.
