Melkbosstrand Main Beach is part of a roughly 7-kilometre run of white Atlantic sand about 30 kilometres north of Cape Town, with the Blouberg range behind it and Koeberg's protected buffer zone keeping the coastline undeveloped. Surfers use the break, and crayfish and the occasional seal turn up close to shore. Dogs are barred from the beach between 09:00 and 19:00 daily from December to March; outside that window, and year-round for the rest of the year, they must stay on a leash.
Note from SitnStay: Dogs are barred from the beach 09:00-19:00 daily between 1 December and 31 March; outside that window, and year-round from April to November, dogs must be kept on a leash — there is no off-leash allowance here.
