Kwa Mai Mai Traditional Market

Kwa Mai Mai, also known as Ezinyangeni, 'the place of healers,' is one of Johannesburg's oldest markets, tucked beneath overpasses and bridges in Jeppestown. Dating to the 1920s when migrant workers from across southern Africa settled here, it remains a living community of around 600 residents built around traditional healing, indigenous medicine, handmade crafts such as izimbadada sandals, and flame-grilled street food. The City of Johannesburg marked its heritage with a blue plaque in 2025.
