Fish Hoek Beach lines a roughly 1.5-kilometre stretch of flat white sand on the False Bay side of the Cape Peninsula, sheltered enough to be one of the calmer swimming spots, with warmer water than the Atlantic beaches nearby. Bodyboarders, windsurfers and surfski paddlers use the bay, lifeguards and shark spotters patrol in summer, and the rocky Jager Walk path runs south past tidal pools. Restaurants and a play area sit at the southern end. Dogs run off leash between the lighthouse and Clovelly; the main beach stays dog-free.
Note from SitnStay: Dogs may run off leash on the section of beach between the lighthouse and Clovelly, but are not permitted on the main Fish Hoek swimming beach, per the City of Cape Town's official beach dog-zone list.
