Poortjies Beach sits at the mouth of the Keurbooms River on the eastern edge of Plettenberg Bay, where calm lagoon water meets the open sea. Locally known simply as die Poortjies, it's a family-friendly swimming spot and one of Plett's designated dog beaches under Bitou Municipality's zoning: leashed dogs on the stretch toward the caravan park, off-leash further along toward Milkwood Manor.
Note from SitnStay: Dogs are welcome on Poortjies Beach: leashed only on the section toward the caravan park, off-leash on the section toward Milkwood Manor. A September 2024 Bitou Municipality update requires leashes on all beaches due to a rabies risk found in local seal populations, so check current signage before letting a dog off-lead.
