First Beach sits at the Dana Bay end of the beach strip near Mossel Bay, running into Second Beach along the same stretch of sand. It is a low-key spot favoured by locals over the town's busier Blue Flag beaches, with dune vegetation backing the shore. Municipal by-law permits leashed dogs here, making the First-to-Second Beach section one of the few formally designated dog-walking beaches in the Mossel Bay area.
Note from SitnStay: Dogs allowed on leash between First and Second Beach in Dana Bay under the Mossel Bay by-law relating to control of the seashore; owners must keep dogs under strict control at all times, with tighter time restrictions during the December-January festive season.
