No enclosed outdoor space — keep recall-shaky dogs on a lead.
Dogs can't come inside.
A long, wild beach where the Groot River meets the sea at the western end of the Garden Route National Park, backed by ancient forest and marking the final stretch of the Otter Trail. Bitou Municipality zones the shoreline for dogs in partnership with the Nature's Valley Trust: sections either side of the Blue Flag area are dog-on-leash, the estuary beach is dog-friendly, while the Blue Flag section and the national park side are strictly no-dogs.
Note from SitnStay: Zoned by Bitou Municipality: dog-on-lead on either side of the Blue Flag demarcated area, dog-friendly on the Estuary Beach, and no dogs on the Blue Flag section, the Garden Route National Park side, or at Salt River Trail/Blue Rocks. A September 2024 bylaw amendment requires all dogs to stay leashed at all times, prompted by rabies found in local seal populations.
