Grotto Beach is Hermanus's main Blue Flag beach, a wide sweep of white sand backed by mountains that has held Blue Flag status for over two decades. It is popular for swimming, and dogs are welcome on stretches away from the flagged swimming section, though they are kept off the main flagged area during peak hours, generally 09:00 to 18:00 in season. Owners are asked to leash dogs and clean up waste, and the beach falls under Overstrand Municipality's coastal management.
