Onrus is a small seaside village just west of Hermanus in the Cape Overberg, built around a river lagoon that stays warmer than the open sea and suits families with young children. The main beach has long, sandy stretches for picnics, sunbathing and swimming, with whales visible offshore roughly between October and January. The old-world village keeps a relaxed, low-key character. Dogs are welcome on Overstrand's beaches and coastal paths on a leash, with owners required to clean up after them.
Note from SitnStay: Overstrand Municipality permits dogs on Onrus and other local beaches and coastal paths under its by-law on dogs and cats, provided they are leashed and under control at all times and owners remove and dispose of waste; some sections have designated off-leash zones.
