Grotto Beach is Hermanus's main stretch of white sand, part of an 18km run of coastline and one of the town's Blue Flag beaches for water quality and facilities. It suits swimming, tidal-pool exploring and long walks, backed by fynbos-covered dunes. Overstrand Municipality requires dogs to be leashed across most of the beach and coastal paths, but sets aside two off-leash green zones at Grotto specifically for dogs to run free.
