A paved 3km walkway tracing the Indian Ocean shoreline in Umhlanga, running past the whalebone pier, the red-and-white lighthouse, and manicured coastal gardens down toward Umhlanga Rocks Beach. Cafes and restaurants line the route, and the wide path draws joggers, prams and evening strollers. Dog walkers are a regular sight along the promenade, and eThekwini's municipal beach by-law permits animals on the beach area provided they are kept under control.
