Umhlanga Promenade runs along the beachfront in Umhlanga Rocks, a flat paved path lined with cafes, restaurants and the landmark Umhlanga Lighthouse. It's one of Durban North's most popular walking routes, busy with joggers, families and dog owners, especially early morning and at weekends. A statue of Humphrey, the Durban and Coast SPCA's late ambassador dog, stands along the route. Leashed dogs are welcome on the promenade and the adjoining non-bathing beach, though not in the Blue Flag swimming section.
Note from SitnStay: Dogs on leash are permitted on the Umhlanga Promenade and the adjacent non-Blue Flag beach stretch, roughly between Bronze Beach/Hawaan and the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve, but not in the designated Blue Flag bathing area.
